Jessica Campos
Community Engagement
and Partnerships Director

Office of Racial Equity

Born and raised in San Francisco/Daly City, Jessica Campos ground truths and meaningfully connects ORE’s work in multi-racial, multilingual communities to eliminate racial disparities in employment, housing, criminal justice, economic advancement, health, transit, education, homelessness and other social outcomes.

Before joining the ORE, Jessica served as the manager of a Head Start/Early Head Start program in District 10 serving the most vulnerable populations. Through a strength-based model, she developed an environment in which children were seen and heard as active learners and participants in their community. Jessica created a network of resource providers to connect families for essential supports such as housing, food, and clothing. Her passion for change guides her to advocate in different levels of community, from being a mentor with City of Dreams to a member of the Board of Directors with Early Care Educators San Francisco.  Keeping a clear understanding that community collaboration and engagement is key when at the table with leaders about events, spaces and policies supports in addressing equity and intentionality. In partnership with SFSU, Jessica assisted in developing Professional Learning Circles to cultivate teachers’ professional and personal growth by creating reflective and healing practices and taught an EXCO course on the importance of engaging with the community leaders, elected officials,  and advocates to have a holistic approach to serving the community.

Jessica is a longtime educator with over a decade of early childhood experience, which includes working with children from infancy to elementary school. She led the pilot for SF Inclusion Network which highlighted the inequitable access to programs and services for children of color, children with disabilities and/or trauma-exposed. In collaboration with First 5, she held parent cafes to engage families in conversation about their children and to share practices to build a sense of culture and respect among diverse groups. She has facilitated workshops in statewide conferences with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC), National Black Child Institute (NBCDI). She is dedicated to building community within each environment she serves, pushing the expectations to reach higher levels of growth and she seeks opportunities to support colleagues, families, and communities in achieving their goals. She is hopeful in creating a pathway between government agencies, community-based organizations, and communities to bridge resources and fair access to services.

Daughter of Mexican immigrants, Jessica has lived experience with the systemic pressures of assimilating to a norm that is different from one’s culture, beliefs, and traditional values. Born and raised in the border of SF and Daly City near Cow Palace, her community was rich with diversity yet lacking representation in mentorship, which is why she volunteers in City of Dreams, is a member of the India Basin Park project, and is an active BMagic volunteer. She believes that we plant our seeds and through the engagement of our communities we water them in hopes to make a difference for our next generation.
